About Randy

Below are some interesting facts about Randy:

  • I’ve been following Jesus for about 40 years now… sometimes close and, sadly, sometimes at a distance.
  • I’m married to my high school sweetheart (32+ years) who is my best friend in the world and, together, we have 2 young adult sons who we love and are so incredibly proud of. Those sons have, in recent years, given us our long-awaited, much-loved daughters through marriage… we are not yet grandparents but hope reigns eternal!
  • Adele and I are the administrative managers for a spoiled-rotten welsh corgi.
  • We shepherd/disciple a small group of folks who meet together weekly in our home and in-between in other settings, as part of the network of small groups that are Horizon Church in Owings Mills, MD.
  • I believe there are really only 2 seasons in a year: baseball (which is winding down) and Christmas (which is cranking up). They’ll be Christmas reminders up in our home until the pitchers/catchers report for spring training!
  • I’ve served in some form of ministry for over 30 years including about every Church role you can imagine from founding pastor to bus pastor and everything in between. I never, ever wanted to work for a denominational entity and have now worked for several over the last 15 years, including full-time with LifeWay, NOBTS, and the BCM/D.
  • I have too much education… I used to kid with my mom that “her son is a doctor and can’t even prescribe aspirin!”
  • I am sort of a freelance Christian worker, giving full-time to the churches of the BCM/D in areas of pastoral leadership development and support; small, home/market-based groups; and spiritual formation. Then, in my spare time, I serve as the MD extension center director for SBTS, a DMin mentor for GGBTS’s leadership DMin, and faculty for Rockbridge Seminary.
